The following was published in the Eleventh Edition (April) of the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International newsletter.
Congratulations to Smoky Hill Past President Talee Crowe for appearing in this article...
When I first joined Rotary in 1988, I knew little about our service organization. However, my club was thorough in its orientation, and I was quickly encouraged
to make an annual contribution of at least $100 to The Rotary Foundation. And so I did. Little did I realize what a profound effect that small amount of money could have on the world when
combined with the contributions of other Rotarians.
As my involvement in the work of Rotary has grown, so has my understanding of our Foundation and its many programs. I was particularly intrigued by the Permanent Fund and the Benefactor
Program because it allows me to leave something behind that would contribute to the work of the Foundation long after I am unable to do so. I am currently
giving Rotary my most precious possessions: my time and talent. I want Rotary’s important work to continue when I am no longer around, so signing the
Benefactor commitment card was an easy decision for me, and one that I have shared with many other Rotarians.
Last year as District Governor, I had the opportunity to share much information with fellow Rotarians, and I made it my personal goal to encourage
participation in the Benefactor program. I asked each club president to talk to their club about the Benefactor program and instead of giving me a gift at my official visit, to provide me with
two new Benefactors from amongst their members. At the end of the year over 130 Rotarians had chosen to FOREVER make a difference in the lives of others.
